Week 7 - Family Travels

So here we are again, with the 7th instalment of my 52 part series.

It was a busy week, and a busier weekend.   We had a couple of days off, and spent one of them catching up on blogs and adventure plans, and another day bouldering at our current favourite indoor venue, The Climbing Station in Loughborough.  The weekend was spent driving hundreds of miles up north, down south, there and back again.

On with the show...

Weekly Summary

Best laid plans...family, old and young...

Weekly Thanks and Praise

Pin Snot...for being my favourite daughter of all the one I've got...for being a beautiful person, and continually making me proud...for being creative and warm and funny and gorgeous, all at once.

Weekly Present

A friend, Matt was staying with us for a few days to recuperate after a time in hospital.  Of course, it's quite cold round our house, so I went to find something for Matt to wear.   I came across a hoody I used to love...it's black, with Orange County Choppers design's on the front and back...very metal, and suited Matt down to the ground.  He only wears black, and he likes Rammstein (ffs)...so I was very happy to give it to him.

Week 6 - Work, Visit, Climb

So here we are again, with the 6th instalment of my 52 part series.

It was another very busy week with work, and poorly friends...although we climbed several times again, including a mammoth bouldering session where we climbed 75 problems in under 3 hours.  I also got in an inaugural jam with Jools, which was great fun.

On with the show...

Weekly Summary

Work, hospital, work, climb, hospital, jam, climb!

Weekly Thanks and Praise

Mum - for always supporting me, whichever random path I've veered off onto...and for being such an influential role model, with her generosity of spirit, which is a lesson for us all.

Weekly Present

I overheard a conversation about a failed hard drive, which had contained a large number of video's which weren't backed up.    Before I could catch myself, I'd offered to attempt to retrieve the data - I've done this kind of thing a number of times over the years, and have the relevant software.   It's a long winded and challenging task, characterised by deep scans of the raw data on a disc, which take 10 hours a time, and have to be run repeatedly.   I've got some of the data back at least, despite the drive being pretty well knackered.

You're welcome, TC!

More next week (or maybe later, as I'm so far behind with this)...

Week 5 - Busy Busy

So here we are again, with the 5th instalment of my 52 part series.

It was a really hectic week at work, dominated by a friend and colleague who is very unwell at the moment.    I spent a fun weekend at Jezz's, climbing, Xboxing and generally over-indulging.  I'm never going to get rid of the 5lbs I put on over Xmas with behaviour like that, even when I'm climbing 2 or 3 times a week!

On with the show...

Weekly Summary

Busy walking the walk...tiring yet rewarding!

Weekly Thanks and Praise

Aaron aka Portvinder - thanks for being such a good friend to Matt, supporting him in his hour of need...letting your conscience be your guide is admirable!  Thanks for being one of the good guys.

Weekly Present

Recently, my good friend Jezz has been afflicted with the climbing equivalent of golf's "the yips".   When we climbed at the weekend, I tried to be as supportive and encouraging as possible.   I wanted to give him the gift of a supportive and positive opportunity to start to get his leading head back on.  I'm not sure how much it helped, but he did manage to lead a number of challenging routes, and looked comfortable doing it. Not that it's any great sacrifice for me - it's how I tend to approach things anyway, and going climbing is always brilliant fun anyway!  Win-win!  :-)

Week 4 - Days of Grey

So here we are again, with the 4th instalment of my 52 part series.

It was another fairly quiet week for me, completely dominated by a stinking cold I've had all week.   Have done nothing else of note...yay me!

On with the show...

Weekly Summary

Where did all this snot come from?!

Weekly Thanks and Praise

Jools - for having made such a lot of his life, for having such a big, open heart, for looking after the whole family, and just for being my brother!

Weekly Present

I haven't been out at all this week, but I did order Anna a book.   The book was The Art of Racing in the Rain, by Garth Stein.  It's written from the perspective of a dog, and is supposed to be very comforting for those who have to euthanise a dog.   Of course, being such a brain dead idiot, I inadvertently bought Racing in the Rain, which is an adaptation for young people, instead.

Doh!!

So I've gotta fix that...but anyway, thanks babe, I hope it helps...xx

Week 3 - 2014!

So here we are again, with the 3rd instalment of my 52 part series.

It was a fairly quiet week, although we climbed (indoors, using ropes) 3 times!   We're trying to get into shape again before a sport climbing trip to the Costa Blanca in March.

On with the show...

Weekly Summary

New Year - 60 routes in 5 days!

Weekly Thanks and Praise

Jezz - thanks for being a good mate all these years, and praise and kudos for achieving such success in various endeavours, through hard work and determination.

Weekly Present

Christina has long been a good friend of Anna, and by extension has become a good friend of mine.  Christina helped Anna to prepare for my party in December, so I bought her some chocs, and put a couple of seasons of Boston Legal (which she's going to love) onto a memory stick for her.   Thanks, 'Stina! x

Week 2 - 50 and a bit

So here we are again, with the 2nd instalment of my 52 part series.

It's been a busy week in some ways, but I've managed to keep up with my daily blog, somehow.   And a fascinating experience it's been.  Recommended...

Anyway, without further ado (Anna's waiting to get on with The Godfather Part II, which we're paused about an hour into)...

Weekly Summary

Xmas...but still missing our boy Bluez...

Weekly Thanks and Praise

Carol, for being so supportive of my sister, my mum and myself...for having such an open and generous soul...and for seeing things that some of us don't.

Weekly Present

I'm going to cheat a little here and nominate a Xmas present...but it was for Anna, and she needs to be on this list.    And the present was a Sonos sound system, which allows her to play music wherever she is around the house and garden.   And with amazing synchronicity, it's currently playing She (the great version by Elvis Costello), which seems a fitting tribute to Anna.   Really glad you like it, babe...x

Week 1 - Big 5-oh

So for my 50th birthday a week ago, I made a big long list of things I'm going to do in the year when I am 50.

I would have said "in my 50th year" but of course this is my 51st...damn.

Some of my resolutions involve blogging some of the things I've done.  Some of these have a weekly basis, so I've combined 3 of them into this 5-oh-1-a-Week blog:

  • Summarise the week in 7 words or less.
  • Send an unsolicited mail to someone to thank or compliment them.
  • Give someone a present.

In this blog I'm going to record each of these, every week.

So here we go.

Weekly Summary

50, BIG number...still in denial, me!

Weekly Thanks and Praise

Anna, for being 50 shades of awesome/lovely.

Weekly Present

George Carlin stand up sessions on a USB stick for Steve Such.  I think he will sympathise with George's position and appreciate his world view.
